Dinnseanchas soundwalk

Walking in the Stories of our Mountains / Ag Siúl i Scéalta Ár Sléibhe: A Soundwalk Through the Future-Past of Ireland’s Uplands

This immersive soundwalk invites listeners into the layered landscapes of Corca Dhuibhne, a coastal upland region in the west of Ireland where language, land, and life are deeply intertwined. Through recorded conversations with local farmers, field recordings, traditional music, soundscapes and storytelling from a local artist who merges local research from archaeologists, geographers, ecologists and anthropologists—participants experience the mountains through multiple lenses: cultural memory, ecological observation, and future imagining.

The walk engages with dinnseanchas—the Irish concept of place-lore—to explore the intersection of human and environmental narratives in a time of accelerating ecological change. The soundwalk serves as both archive and provocation: it preserves knowledge and oral histories while asking what futures are possible beyond now.
